Context

The Trading Workbench is a responsive trading platform designed for beginners and professionals alike, for daily use. It covers portfolio monitoring and tracking, a real market overview, detailed instrument views and trade execution. Users can also browse different markets and build watchlists, so the information they need is always at hand.

Challenge

The goal was to bring market prices and market information closer to e-banking functions and data, in one platform. The client already had an idea of the main features, and we challenged that list together. We started by analyzing the core features, then created wireframes to visualize how everything could fit together.

My role

[One or two sentences in "I" language, for example: "I designed [dashboard, widgets, instrument view] and ran the prototype tests with users and the client."]

Solution and process

We took our time through the prototype, test and feedback phases, and only started the high-fidelity prototype once we felt confident in the direction. The solution focuses on making the platform easy and enjoyable to interact with, built around personalization and interaction. Key decisions (add the "why" for each): Personalization: users can create and customize multiple dashboards, and choose which portfolio to show at dashboard or widget level. [Why: different users and goals need different views.] Drag and drop across the platform: widgets can be arranged and re-arranged on the dashboard, and instruments can be dragged straight into a watchlist. [Why: makes the product feel fast and fun to use.] Beginner and pro in one product: [How you kept the platform approachable for beginners while keeping the depth professionals expect.] Visual: default dashboard in light and dark, with captions pointing out the widgets, plus the instrument detail view.

Outcome

In moments of buying or selling, users need all the important information at a glance to make a decision. That was the guiding idea behind the final design. Building on the responsive web platform, we later developed a mobile version with reduced functionality, focused on use on the go. [Result, if you have it: launch date, adoption, user feedback or client response.] Visual: the dark mobile mockup.

Reflection

[Two or three sentences, for example what you learned about designing for beginners and professionals at the same time, or how the test rounds changed the dashboard.]
